CBD and Xanax ― To Mix or Not to Mix?

Wondering whether or not mixing CBD and Xanax is a good idea?

Read this article to learn about these two products as well as whether or not it’s safe to take both at the same time.

What Is Xanax?

Xanax is one of the better-known medications used for treating anxiety and panic disorders. It’s part of the benzodiazepine family which also includes medication such as Valium, Klonopin, Ativan, and Dalmane.

Ultimately, Xanax starts working as soon as you take it, alleviating your symptoms and allowing you to go on with your regular everyday activities.

However, what you need to keep in mind is that Xanax is not a long-term treatment option but rather a short-term one to help you deal with anxiety or panic attacks. So, if your doctor gives you a prescription for this medication, you should immediately look into some long-term options.

So, could CBD be the solution?

What Is CBD?

CBD also referred to as Cannabidiol is a natural remedy for many mental and physical ailments. It’s known to help reduce the symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression as well as help with pain management including Crohn’s disease, fibromyalgia, and muscle and joint pains.

You can purchase CBD in different forms, depending on your preferences. For example, you can buy CBD oils, creams, lotions, pills, edibles, and vape juice. However, for beginners, we highly recommend trying the oils first.

Contrary to what some people may think, you cannot get high from CBD, unless of course, it contains THC. Luckily, there are plenty of THC-free options available, and in different price ranges. If you need help finding the best CBD oil for you, check out our reviews.

1. Gold Bee CBD Oil

Gold Bee CBD oil is a well-known brand with plenty to offer both newbies and regular users.  This manufacturer is trustworthy and completely transparent about their products, so you can find everything you need to know on their website. Gold Bee has two flavor options available, honey-flavored and natural, and you won’t go wrong with either of them.

2. Royal CBD Oil

We struggle to decide whether we prefer Royal or Gold Bee CBD since both brands have top-quality products. If you do choose to try Royal CBD, they have great potency options available (from 300mg to 1000mg and over) and all their products are made from pure, California-grown hemp that contains zero harmful materials.

3. PureKana CBD Oil

PureKana is a CBD manufacturer based in Arizona. The company has an extensive selection of products, including beverages, honey sticks, oils, etc.  PureKana’s CBD is derived from 100% organically grown hemp and comes in 5 flavors: natural, mint, vanilla, fruity-flavor, and citrus. Concentration-wise, the oils are available in potencies of 300mg, 500mg, 1000mg, 2500mg and 5000mg per bottle.

4. Premium Jane CBD Oil

Premium Jane CBD oil is perfect for those of you looking for the best-tasting option. You can choose from natural, mint, citrus and mint chocolate (our favorite!). Unfortunately, Premium Jane offers potencies of only up to 1000mg, which is great if you’re a beginner,  but not so much if you’re a serious CBD connoisseur. Nevertheless, their CBD oil is top-shelf.

5. Charlotte’s Web CBD Oil

Charlotte’s Web CBD oil is a brand with the best oil potencies available. Some of their formulas may be on the pricy side, however, they’re well worth the money. But, what we appreciate the most is that they offer CBD oils in starter sizes which gives you the option of trying out several different products without breaking the bank.

Can You Mix CBD and Xanax?

And now, let’s finally answer our main question about CBD and Xanax ― can we mix them?

Although you may not have a huge interaction after taking the two, we would nevertheless recommend not to do so.

Ultimately, the positive effects of CBD occur once it interacts with the P450 enzyme in our bodies, which is responsible for breaking down the cannabidiol. When we take CBD oil, it will bind with the P450 and make it impossible for other compounds to also bind with the enzyme.

In short, this means that if you also take Xanax, the enzyme won’t be able to break it down thus the effects, or rather the side-effects of the medication will last longer. Keep in mind that medication only begins to wear off once it’s broken down through your body.

So, you would most likely experience anything from fatigue, memory and coordination problems, and lack of appetite to irritability and insomnia.

The Conclusion

Overall, mixing two different medications is never a good idea. However, some people may consider CBD oil to be different from regular medication since it’s natural.

In the end, if you have any dilemma about whether it’s okay to mix CBD and Xanax, we would strongly advise you to refrain from doing so, as it won’t end well. Instead, if you feel as if Xanax isn’t doing the trick for your condition, consult a medical professional to possibly change your prescription.
